You can learn something from Wedding wines

We recently had a the good fortune to attend a fellow Sommelier's wedding, and tasted some exquisite wines. . It was a merry making and fist pumping odyssey, great wines shared by great company. Wedding wines that made a difference.
Here are some of our thoughts on the wines:

Welcome Drink
Pol Roger Extra Brut
How do you know a champagne is well made? When the minuscule bubbles hit your tongue in equal measures. It was exactly what i got on my palate, as the prickly feeling enticed one to grab a refill.  The acid was refined, and the honeycomb aromas added to the intrigue. This prestigious champagne was loved by Winston Churchill, and is currently the only champagne being served in the courts of Queen Elizabeth II. Overall this a 'dangerous' wine to drink, as you would be drinking copious amounts without knowing it as i found out the hard way.

Appetizers
Domaine Zind Humbrecht Clos Saint Urbain Rangen de Thann Pinot Gris 2003
An Alsace Grand Cru.  For the uninitiated, Pinot Gris (French) = Pinot Grigio (Italian)
This wine is one for the ages.  Superbly elegant with flinty notes, high acids and all round finesse. On the nose, it felt like walking along fields of  flowery white herbs.

Starters
Luis Pato Vinha Formal 2003 (HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT)
Luis Pato is the first winemaker from Portugal's Bairrada region. Making excellent wines since 1970.
Made from 100% Bical grape, a variety whom i'm sure many hasn't come across. It was absolutely astounding. On the nose, there were bright notes of citrus fruits and an impression of melons. The palate is of course balanced, with low acids and a lasting finish. In fact the finish, ended more than 24hrs later. Sure signs of majestic quality.

Main Course
Domaine Pierre Usselgio Cuvee de mon Aieul Chateauneuf du Pape 2004
A big wine, that required more time in the decanter. Recommended to decant for 2hrs.
Soft tannin, rich in dark fruit flavors and all rounds full marks for a 100% Grenache made well.
The perfume aroma speaks volumes of dark seduction, and adventure.
A wine that would be more than welcome in the Vatican.

What wines have you tried in weddings you have gone to, that made a difference?

Cheers,
Gerard Zhang
