France vs South Africa, the epilogue
It is a competition like none other. France vs South African wines. Old world vs New World.
The list went on.
Some called it David vs Goliath. We preferred to let personal preference take the front seat.
All wines went through a vigorous selection criteria, curated by the legendary Gerald Lu. Pricing, varietal, conditions and taste profile were selected to be as close to each other as possible.
The event took place on a blistering hot sat afternoon, at Praelum Wine Bistro.
Whites went first up, and Chablis proved to be a more popular wine with it narrowly beating the South African Tulbagh Chardonnay by a vote of 12-10
Thankfully, the second station quickly closed the gap to 1 all on the total score. Though the Tulbagh Merlot proved to be crowd favourite with a clear vote victory of 14-8
The 3rd station was a close fight at 11-10 scoreline in favor..... of Rhone valley's GSM.
2-1 to France and all to play for in the last station
At the last station, pride was salvaged for South Africa wines. As Tulbagh Cab Sauv trounced Chateau Haut Bages Librec with a vote of 15-5.
In the end, the results ended in an even 2-2 draw. The crowd had fun bantering, and everyone went home "winetified". Everyone learnt something, and took away valuable blind tasting lessons along the way.
Have you organised a blind tasting recently, and put your sensories and knowledge to the test? You should, as practise makes perfect
You could view the revelation of the wines here.
Cheers and till the next event
